Material Properties

  • Very good thermal checking.
  • Thermal shock resistance.
  • Very good hot strength and tempering back resistance.
  • Good weldability.
  • Good machinability.
  • Recommended working hardness 40-50 HRc.
  • Good coating and nitriding ability.

  • Long life die casting dies, cores and cavities.
  • Die casting dies:
    • On visual sections where heat checking / thermal fatigue occurred
    • Against to cracking, total failure, gross checking risks
    • Against to tough operating conditions due to thermal shock
    • If the wall thickness of the Al part is very thin or very thick
    • Dies with complex geometry.
    • If it is very cosmetic Al part
    • PVD coated insert against to soldering.
  • Cores in press forging die.
  • Press forging dies where high toughness is required.
  • Preferred for dies and molds subjected to high temperatures and the risk to breaking or cracking.
  • Blades, punches thicker than 10 mm in cutting and shearing dies.
  • Cold forging, cold extrusion dies.

Heat Treatment

Soft Annealing 820-840°C, Until 650°C cooled in the furnace then air cooled.
Stress Relieving 500-550°C
Hardening 1010-1030°C
Tempering 530-650°C
Pre-weld Heating 300-320°C
Nitriding 480-550*
Coating PVD 480-550*

*30°C lower than tempering temperature
